Victorian Wedding Gowns For The Traditional Wedding
There are many different types of weddings conducted throughout the United States today. Some individuals choose to have a theme wedding, such as a tropical beach party or renaissance themed wedding. Other couples choose to have a more relaxed, informal wedding where everyone is expected to just kick back and have a good time. For couples that choose to have a more traditional wedding, often the style of the wedding is based off of the Victorian era, with the brides wearing Victorian wedding gowns and the rest of the wedding party in very formal wedding attire.
Victorian wedding gowns are extremely popular with brides having a traditional wedding because of the classic styling of the gowns. For many individuals, when they picture a wedding dress in their mind, they picture Victorian wedding gowns because that is the style most closely associated with a traditional wedding. Typically, these types of gowns have a fitted bodice and a long, flowing skirt of shimmering white material. Some of the gowns have beading or intricate designs on the bodice while others have designs located just above and around the hemline to enhance the beauty of the skirt of the dress. The sleeves of Victorian wedding gowns can be any length, from full to half to a sleeveless or strapless bodice. The neck of the gown is typically high, with a lace collar fastening around the throat of the bride.
Finding Victorian Wedding Gowns
Because of the popularity of Victorian wedding gowns, they are very easy to find in a number of locations. National chains and major retailers of wedding apparel typically have a wide selection of Victorian wedding gowns as that style is usually a best seller. At these retail stores, brides can try on a number of dresses in different sizes to choose the perfect gown design for her special day. Some of these retailers also have an expert seamstress on staff to make any alterations to the dresses that the bride desires. These alterations typically include raising the hemline of the gown, taking in the sides of the bodice to create a better fit or altering the design of the gown to better match the style of the wedding.
Whether the bride would like a traditional wedding or just would like a beautiful, classically styled wedding dress, Victorian wedding gowns can be the style that the bride dreams of. The popularity of Victorian wedding gowns is not surprising, as the gowns have been the perfect gowns for traditional weddings since the late 1800’s. With the flowing designs, intricate beading, and number of different styles to choose from, the bride is sure to find the perfect wedding dress for her special day.
Good news for brides inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, classic is back. Fabrics, silhouettes and accessories borrowed from the 1940s through 1960s offer brides the opportunity to start with the basics and enhance them with luxurious finishing touches.
