One of the most popular types of weddings today is the theme wedding, where the entire wedding revolves around a central theme.  Some individuals choose to have a traditional Victorian themed wedding while others choose more exotic themes such as Hawaiian themed weddings.  One wedding theme that is rising in popularity is the medieval themed wedding, where the brides wear medieval wedding gowns and all of the bridal party participants wear appeal from the medieval period.  Medieval themed weddings can be a lot of fun, but pulling off the theme and finding the proper items to make it work can be difficult.

Retailers For Medieval Wedding Gowns

Medieval wedding gowns can be difficult to find as many retailers either have a very limited selection of the gowns or do not carry the gowns at all.  There are some online retailers that have a wider selection of medieval wedding gowns and other wedding attire available for purchase.  The biggest drawback to these vendors is that the dress must be ordered online before the bride has had a chance to try on the dress and if the dress does not fit properly or does not look attractive on the bride, then the dress can be a hassle to return. 

Another little known vendor for medieval wedding gowns is period costume vendors located at many renaissance fairs.  These vendors typically have many different period costumes to choose from which will include wedding gowns.  Some of these vendors will allow you to try on the gowns, and then order the one that the bride likes the best to be created and delivered to the bride at a later date.  These vendors are also good to order apparel for the rest of the wedding party from as well.

Creating Unique Medieval Wedding Gowns

In some cases, brides can find styles that they like, either through a magazine or a period costume that is not quite right for a wedding dress, and have medieval wedding gowns created by expert seamstresses based on the original design that they liked.  Although this may be the most expensive method for obtaining medieval wedding gowns, it is also the most effective at giving the bride exactly what she desires.  Using the basic design of the original gown, the bride can change the color, fabric, or detailing of the gown to match what she envisions for the rest of the wedding. 

Creating a dress this way can take an extended period of time and will require numerous reviews and fittings to ensure that the item is being created in the way that the bride wishes.  Because of the amount of time needed to create medieval wedding gowns by this method, it is recommended that construction of the gown be started no later than six months before the wedding is to take place.  Although the gown will be expensive and will take a great deal of dedication on the part of the bride to see the project through to completion, it will result in a unique gown that the bride will treasure for the rest of her life.
