A Guide to Finding Vintage Wedding Gowns
There are so many different types of wedding gowns out there to choose from, and vintage wedding gowns are one type in particular that are really gaining in popularity. Vintage wedding gowns offer so much style, elegance and class, and they really compliment every woman.
If you are one of the many blushing brides out there who love vintage wedding gowns and you want to wear one on your own wedding, then there are a few things you are going to want to think about first.
The Rules
There are several rules that you need to follow when you are looking for vintage wedding gowns, one which is to always avoid any dresses with stains or large rips. Stains are hard enough to get out of dresses that you have just worn, let alone dresses that they have been in for years.
As well, the fabric and design of vintage wedding gowns is typically a lot different than that of more modern style dresses, and so any rips or holes in the gown will most likely be difficult or even impossible to fix. It will be incredibly hard for you to find material that is going to look satisfactorily on the gown.
Another important rule is to remember that you are generally not going to be the same size in a vintage dress as you are in a regular one. This is because not only has the general population grown taller and thicker, but as well the clothing industry itself has been gradually adjusting sizes downward. Therefore you will usually need to go at least a couple sizes up for a vintage style dress to fit properly.
You always want to stay away from any dresses that are too old, namely because fabric deteriorates over time. You should always take some time when looking for vintage clothing of any sort, and stretch the fabric, look at it, noting any flaws. Basically anything made before 1900 is too risky to purchase, and definitely too risky for your wedding day.
Your budget is also very important here, and although when buying vintage you usually can save quite a bit of money, especially when compared to purchasing a regular wedding gown, you are still going to want to have some sort of budget set out for yourself.
This allows you to have a basic idea of which gowns are in your price range and which ones are not, and thus narrow down your options that much more.
Remember to have fun when you are out there, and shopping for vintage clothing can really be a lot of fun because the outfits are so unique and beautiful.
