Irish Weddings Gifts to Honor your Heritage

Published by Author under Wedding Gifts

For some reason, the Irish are rather sentimental about their heritage and if you fall into this category, chances are you will want Irish wedding gifts to be bestowed on your wedding day. A variety of options abound when it comes to paying tribute to your roots in Ireland and many of them incorporate popular symbols and designs that are classic and timeless.

Luck of the Irish

Among the most popular of traditional Irish wedding gifts is the horseshoe which has always been a symbol of good luck in Irish fables and legends. Per tradition, a horseshoe is carried by the bride on her wedding day to ward off bad vibes and bring good luck. Once the groom and bride become man and wife, the horseshoe is then positioned over the front entrance of their home as a way to ward off evil. These horseshoes are popular in materials such as sterling silver, polished brass or even delicately detailed porcelain.

Hear It Ring

A special bell is another of the many popular Irish wedding gifts and according to Irish legend, the sound of a ringing bell is supposed to hold back evil that may try to surround the couple. Older generations of Irish call it the wedding bell or even the “I’m sorry” bell because its ringing is supposed to keep both the bride and groom focused on their marriage, not on petty differences. When you find yourself in an argument with your spouse, you are supposed to ring the bell which signals your love for your mate as well as a way to end an argument. You may find wedding bells in crystal, spun glass, porcelain and even different types of metal and all of them will have some sort of Celtic design.

Sowing the Seeds of Love

Shamrock seeds are excellent Irish wedding gifts because the shamrock is not only totally Irish but also a symbol of good fortune and luck. While you could purchase seed packets to distribute as wedding favors for bridal or groom attendants, you could also give them to guests as a token of your love for them. Even better, with a little planning, you can plant the shamrock seeds in advance and then gift the newly sprouted shamrocks in a pretty flower pot or plant holder.

A magic hanky, salt and pepper shakers, wedding coins, candlestick holders and even claddagh rings make for great Irish wedding gifts. You are only limited by your imagination and of course, your heritage when it comes to purchasing Irish wedding gifts.

The Magic of the Islands with Hawaiian Wedding Gifts

Published by Author under Wedding Gifts

Hawaiian wedding gifts are the perfect solution for the matrimonial couple who either plans to honeymoon or have a destination wedding in the Hawaiian Islands. It is fun to get into the spirit of things and embracing the wedding couple’s love of Hawaii is a great avenue to pursue for a gift commemorating their love for one another.

Natural Elements

One of the many things the Hawaiian Islands are known for is its natural beauty so why not tie in those natural elements into your gift to the happy couple? Hawaiian wedding gifts could incorporate koa, which is a popular wood related to the Acacia tree and often used in a variety of items. You could find a plaque made from koa which has a Hawaiian wedding prayer engraved on it or even a special photo album with a cover crafted from koa.

Other Hawaiian wedding gifts that might incorporate the natural elements of the islands include baskets and mats woven from native island grasses and even native wood carvings of figurines or practical items like bowls and serving utensils. These practical gifts with an island flair are attractive and shows that you put thought into the wedded couple’s interests.

Classic Hawaii

Among the many Hawaiian wedding gifts you could bestow on the happy bride and groom include a romantic basket filled with Hawaiian products like macadamia nuts, incense and candles made from the essence of island flowers and even a musical CD of local island favorites.  Choose home items such as serving dishes or glasses with a pineapple theme as this fruit is the official one of the islands and represents “Aloha” as well as general hospitality in the home.

If the happy couple has a specific place in Hawaii they are visiting, do a little research of the area and find a few activities you think they might enjoy in between those private honeymoon moments. Hawaiian wedding gifts for the bride and groom could be gift certificates for local restaurants, shops or entertainment venues they could use during their stay or even for online internet storefronts so they could shop from home.

Of course, any Hawaiian wedding gifts that involve flowery leis, palm trees, coconuts, shells or exotic blooms are fair game as well. These items could be incorporated in a variety of things from jewelry, food, home décor, personal grooming, clothing and more. Hawaiian wedding gifts are fun and if they can fit within the bride and groom’s overall tastes as well as their new home and favorite pastimes, then you have a winning combination.

Fun Wedding Shower Gifts Need a Theme

Published by Author under Wedding Gifts

Wedding showers differ a bit from bridal showers in that they are usually parties for both the bride and groom and incorporate all of their friends – both men and women. As such, you want to choose fun wedding shower gifts both the bride and groom will enjoy and can also use in their newly joined household. The key to choosing these gifts starts with a particular theme, usually the theme of the wedding shower itself.

Dog Days of Summer

If the wedding shower is a casual, backyard barbecue type of event, choose fun wedding shower gifts that are practical and reflect this outdoor theme. For instance, if the bride and groom have a barbecue pit, give them a fancy set of new barbecue tools along with barbecue spices and condiments. Another great idea for the great outdoor gift theme is an ice cream maker, perfect for making a cool treat during those hot summer months.

Other fun wedding shower gifts could include garden or yard tools if they plan to live in a house rather than an apartment. Go in with several friends and purchase them a new lawn mower, weed trimmer or even a landscaping package complete with labor, tools and plants and shrubs.

In the Kitchen

The kitchen is often said to be the heart of the home and there are plenty of fun wedding shower gifts that reflect the kitchen theme. If the couple enjoys oriental food, why not choose a rice maker along with a wok and oriental spices so they can create their own tasty works of art? This idea applies to other cuisines as well such as a pretty colander along with pasta and sauce for an Italian theme or a fajita skillet and tortilla maker for a Mexican theme.

While traditional kitchen appliances are likely items people will purchase from their gift registry, choose a few fun wedding shower gifts that they can still use in the kitchen but didn’t think to register for with other gifts. For instance, a coffee bean grinder isn’t something they will necessarily think of but if you give them a grinder along with a selection of gourmet coffee beans, you can bet they will think of you with each pot of coffee they brew.

Personal Indulgences

Sometimes, the decadent is what makes for fun wedding shower gifts such as spa products or those for the bedroom only because no one really thinks about giving these things. Stand out from the crowd and give your friends a basket of spa products along with his and her robes so they can have pampering sessions. Naughtier gifts like chocolate body paint or edible body dust should be saved for those couples who you know would use and appreciate them unabashedly. For the most part, it is understanding the likes and dislikes of the bride and groom along with knowing what they need and want that plays into choosing fun wedding shower gifts.

Traditional Cherokee Wedding Gifts

Published by Author under Wedding Gifts

The Cherokee has long occupied North America. Their traditions and beliefs are based on the elements of nature and what they encounter in their daily lives. A traditional Cherokee wedding entails going through what has been practiced since time immemorial for the Cherokee tribe.

Cherokee wedding gifts may vary depending on what is available and who are the guests. Most couples who wish to get married in traditional Cherokee expect to receive traditional Cherokee wedding gifts but at the same time also receive more current or modern gifts from other guests. This is because some guests may not have any idea what to give them in accordance to Cherokee culture and just give what is usually given to newlyweds anywhere in the world.

Traditional Gifts

Traditionally, Cherokee wedding gifts were given just from the intermediate family and none from other members of the clan and these Cherokee wedding gifts were given to the family of the bride for the groom to find favor. The girl cannot refuse a man in whom her family finds favor in and she has to marry him after he has given her family gifts and services. Other Cherokee wedding gifts that were given were the traditional ones exchanged by both the bride and groom to symbolize their obligations to each other.

Cherokee Wedding Gifts During The Ceremony

During the wedding ceremony, both parties will give each other wedding gifts to symbolize each something. On the side of the groom, venison and a blanket are brought for the girl. The venison and blanket are presented to the girl by the groom’s mother. These symbolize the young man’s ability to provide food and shelter for the girl. Cherokee wedding gifts from the side of the bride to the groom consist of some corn and tanned hide or skin, held by his mother. These Cherokee wedding gifts are supposed to symbolize the food and clothing she will prepare for her husband to be.

The Cherokee wedding gifts are given to the bride and groom after the brides hands her groom a belt made by her. The acceptance of the groom symbolizes his acceptance of her as his bride. Both mothers of the people about to get married have authority over their children and can represent them in marriage.

These are the traditional Cherokee wedding gifts given by both sides of the wedding party for each other. They are symbols of the duties and obligations of the man and wife when they are married.

Touching Wedding Gifts for the Mother of the Bride

Published by Author under Wedding Gifts

The mother-daughter bond is special so when the daughter is to become the bride, this signals to the mom that her “baby” is gone. However, with the right wedding gifts for the mother of the bride, you can assure your mother that while you may be a bride and marrying, she will be your “mommy” forever.

Sentimental Journey

One of the best wedding gifts for the mother of the bride is to take the time to create a special commemorative “mother’s album” filled with photos of just you and your mom throughout your life, including the here and now. You will want to start a few months before your wedding to work on it, browsing through picture in the family albums and secretly making copies for your own album to present to her. With a personal note saying how much you love her, this gift will be one that your mother treasures forever and will flip through often.

Writing a personal poem and having it framed and engraved with your best wishes is among the best wedding gifts for the mother of the bride you can choose. Taking the time to find in your own words how much she means to you and how much you will still need her even after marriage is the best gift you can give.

Jewelry is Good

Choosing something she can wear next to her heart like a cross or locket counts among some great wedding gifts for the mother of the bride. Determine whether your mom likes gold or silver first before selecting a locket or cross for your mom to wear in honor of your love for her. The locket could be engraved and could include your photo and hers and you can even dictate the shape of the locket you choose for her. With a cross pendant, you could also engrave a special message to her if you so desired and if there was adequate room to do so.

Beaded jewelry is hot these days and there are several types that are dedicated to moms which would make for stylish wedding gifts for mother of the bride. The most popular piece of beaded jewelry is the bracelet as it can be worn with virtually anything, no matter how dressy or casual. A charm bracelet is also an option and you could choose charms that hold special meaning to both you and your mother. Add a personal note explaining the significance of each charm and you are guaranteed to have your mom cry tears of joy at your thoughtfulness.

The best thing you can do in terms of wedding gifts for mother of the bride is choosing something that holds special meaning for just the two of you. As mentioned before, the mother-daughter bond is unique and special so your gift should reflect that love for one another.

Last-Minute, Cheap Wedding Gifts

Published by Author under Wedding Gifts

Let’s face it, guys: weddings are fun, but buying expensive wedding gifts is no fun at all. Cheap wedding gifts that seem expensive are the trick to being able to go to a lot of fun weddings without breaking the bank.

Cheap Wedding Gifts – Re-gifting

The cheapest wedding gift of all is the one that costs nothing. Most of us have, in a cabinet or closet or garage somewhere, an opened box of something we know we will never use. Giving one of these items to the happy couple – a practice known as “re-gifting” – is a way to give a brand new item to a couple without spending a dime. True, you would lose any money you would have gained by returning the item, but you know that returning gifts is a hassle, and you’ll never do it anyway, so why not just re-gift the item and save yourself the trouble.

Of course, you can’t re-gift just any old item. Clothing and personalized gifts, for example, make terrible cheap wedding gifts. Anything stale-dated, like an unopened calendar, is out of the question. Picture frames, candle sticks, knick-knacks, kitchenware, and gift cards that have not expired are perfect for re-gifting.

Cheap Wedding Gifts – Services

Another great idea for a cheap wedding gift is to offer your services to the bride and groom. The only cost to you is the paper and ink it takes to print the certificate or write it up as a hand-made gift. Whatever service you choose to offer is up to you, but don’t be afraid to be creative. Research has shown that very few recipients of these kinds of gift certificates ever redeem them. Go ahead, offer to hand-wash their car ten times, cook them a gourmet meal, babysit their firstborn child for a weekend, or walk their dog every day for a month. You’ll have a nice, fat envelope to take to the wedding and put in the gift room, and you can dance the night away with that attractive, single member of the wedding party.

Cheap Wedding Gifts – Art

Calm down, all you artists out there. I am not implying that art is cheap, only that some art, like stock photography, can make an excellent cheap wedding gift. For less than $10, you can purchase an amazing stock photo, or several of them, online. Print them out on your home photo printer. Pick out as many simple black frames as you need at the Dollar Store, and you have a sophisticated wedding gift that costs well under $20.

White Wedding Popularized During Victorian Times

Published by Author under Wedding Traditions

Queen Victoria popularized the use of white wedding dresses and in modern times, a white wedding is depicted as the bride wearing a white gown. Prior to the use of white as a fashionable color for wedding gowns, most women wore their regular clothing ot bought a gown that could also be used later for more formal functions. The color was not as important as the style of the gowns, and even in the early and mid-19th century in the United States, gowns that were also functional for other uses often belief the families financial status.

During the Victorian period in the United States, white was considered to represent the virtue of the bride as being pure of heart and came to represent the virginity of the bride. Although not the first to have a white wedding, Queen Victoria was the first royal to wear a white wedding gown, which until that time considered white to be a color of mourning. Gowns of other colors also sparked the writing of poems that claimed the bride’s choice of color in a wedding gown depicted her future happiness.

With modern white wedding, the bride’s gown will be white and varying styles as will be flowers carried by the bride and those adorning the church and reception hall. The concept of white meaning virginity has lost its legitimacy and many women have been known to wear white gowns during a second and even third wedding ceremony.

Need For Uniqueness Made Part Of Etiquette

In 1922, when Emily Post, then considered the foremost authority on etiquette published her guide to etiquette covering all of the small details of wedding planning that were often overlooked in the confusion. Later guides of her writings pointed out the requirements of a white wedding, including the organist, bridesmaids and all other participating in the wedding. Her writing also noted that the wedding ceremony should also represent the unique style of the bride and groom.

This directive for being unique has been interpreted to mean that a white wedding is not unique only to brides that remain a virgin and that other colors for the wedding gown, as well as the dress of other wedding participants was open for interpretation.

Initially, this may have gone against the beliefs of many traditionalists, but was a welcome change to many as they could make their wedding their own without doing things simply because of tradition. Many families still have individual traditions for weddings, but for most white wedding are still included in their wishes.
